Yassi Bliss landed in Amerikah at age ten in love with theater and hip-hop. The first of fourty generations to grow up outside of the Asian continent, Yassi’s ancestors have lived through the love, lyrics, and reflections of the following people: LaVern Williams, Suheir Hammad, Cherrie Moraga, June Jordan, Audre Lorde, Ruth Forman, Joy Harjo, Yusef Komunyakaa, Sedigheh Nemati, Mariam Aryai, Fakhrosadat Meerhosseini, Forough Farrokhzad, and Rickerby Hind. She is indebted to the VONA, p4p-2003/2004, Tongues-a-Fire, and a.w.a.a.m. writing communities, specifically, Douglas Kearney, Elmaz Abinaider, Erica Doyle, Roopa Singh, Mona Eldahry, Devorah Hill, Solmaz Sharif, and Shahnaz Bonyanpoor, for their past mentorships. Yassi works as a teacher and studies poetry, theater, and translation at Antioch University in Los Angeles. Should her work move you, she gives thanks in advance to her, the creator.
