A good friend and sister of nearly a decade
has called me a chameleon-

because my “privilege” has taken me
to environments where
I’ve had to study,
work
and live amongst
people who have not had my challenges.

.
Since middle school, I’ve been changing up.
.
.
Now, as I enter graduate school, I hear my Spirit inviting me back to itself. Because I am black, female, queer, and low-income, the interviews, essays, and applications for entrance, for mobility, for subsistence are just beginning.

There is a proverb which states
“in all your getting,
get understanding.”

Each day I strive to more intimately know myself.
