Spirit Interview 5 -Jade Foster

Jade Foster

Jade Foster, HSR Poet and Co-Author

Jade Foster
Age: soon to be 26
City: District of Columbia
Saturn: Scorpio
Sun Sign: Virgo

Jade:
Shawn, hey! you were in my dream last night!

HSR:
Really, what was the dream?

Jade:
I was like on the odyssey, and ended up at this private party at ur house, and there were mad characters, and I had to get on a highway to get there.

HSR: (laughs)
Let’s think about that a lil more.  while we begin.  First, I’d like to give you a chance to invite any ancestor that you’d like into the conversation, and then I’ll ask the first question, no need to tell me who.
Okay, so according to you birth chart, your Saturn is in Scorpio, as I expected!

Jade:
What does that even mean, my SATURN?

HSR:
Well, good question.  Saturn is the planet that rules over the time of transition in your life, turmoil, pain.  Saturn will challenge you during your entire life around specific subjects.  Wherever Saturn was placed when you were born, that’s where your inner most intense life challenges will exist but when it “returns” it comes three-fold like a lightening bolt.  Scorpio happens to focus on transformation and your issues will evolve around sex death and other people’s money… among other things.

Jade:
Mmmnn, why’d you suspect I was scorpio?  How do you get it to ‘return’?

HSR:
Well, since I’ve known you, you have a dark side to you that seems too familiar.  It returns during the three years towards hitting 30.  And, I forgot to mention, it’s extremely resonant with women, but men experience it too… it’s cause we’re into cycles

Jade:
Okay on to the questions!

HSR:
Oh yes! Ok, ok, but this is good meat for the interview.  So, if you didn’t know about Saturn, why did you think it apt to submit to the collection?

Jade:
Because of you.

HSR:
I like that answer.  (smiles)

Jade:
I bet!

Jade's Poetry

Jade's Poetry Magnet on my Fridge

HSR:
Well, I picked you cause I am in love with your poetry!!!   It lives on my fridge.  Just yesterday a friend in my kitchen stopped to read the cereusarts.com magnet.  My heart still melts when I read the poetry.

Jade:
(laughs). I’m trying to do another one of those in time for an upcoming conference.  Uuggghh pressure!!!

HSR: Since our collection is organized around sex death and other people’s money, do you feel like these subjects tend to be things that you deal with?  Any one moreso than the other?

Jade: I see death a lot.  I lost my parents when i was young and that’s shaped me in a way.  But it also makes me the go-to friend, when friends lose people, so I’m like some version of hades?  A type of gatekeeper/ death talker person.  As far as other people’s money, i just want it, and sex too. (smiles).

HSR: Hmm, I would have never seen that coming, being the go-to person.

Jade: Yeah it’s weird, but not, because I understand.

HSR: It’s funny that you mention gatekeeper though.  Have you read the book by Sobonfu Some The Spirit of Intimacy?
The 13th chapter is titled “Homosexuality: The Gatekeepers”.
You have to read these three quotes that I just finished quoting yesterday:

“Gatekeepers are people who live a life at the edge between two worlds -the world of the village and the world of the spirit…
“The gatekeepers stand on the threshold of the gender line. They are mediators between the two genders…
“Now what would happen if you’re dealing with a culture that doesn’t care about these gateways? What happens is that a gay person cannot do his job. Gatekeepers are left unable to accomplish their purpose.

and lastly, I like:

“I once heard that one of the reasons why gatekeepers are able to open gates to other dimensions is in the way they use their sexual energy. Their ability to focus their sexual energy in a particular way allows them to open and close different gates.

Jade:
Mmmnnn.  Oh Shawnta.  You make my record skip!

HSR:
You have to read the book, it’s awesome.

Jade:
But don’t ask me have no intelligent response to those quotes.  I’ll add it to my amazon list!

HSR:
But seriously, what do you think your life purpose is?

Jade:
My life purpose?
To create and to give, to whoever needs it.  To teach…
I am a TEACHER.

HSR:
And about the collection, what piece do you think most represented your Saturn in Scorpio?

Jade:
It’d have to be “Convenient Amnesia” because of the relationship I’m discussing, it just went wrong for a thousand reasons, but the whole reluctant to share on my part affected it a lot.

HSR:
But in “Safer Sex and Downward Dykes” you seemed very prepared to share.  What changed?

Jade:
Cassandra.
But that was a fleeting moment. I’m always capable of honesty and vulnerability in my poetry, or else, what’s the point?

HSR:
Very good point.  Was she the turning point for you and how you relate in your relationships?

Jade:
Mmnnn, yes.  Everybody’s a turning point, or has the potential to be.

HSR:
Good answer

Jade:
Gold star for me!

HSR:
If this is someone’s first time reading your work, what do you want people to grasp from their introduction to your poetry?

Jade:
Aaaahhh.  I don’t have nothing to do with how people grasp my work.  No expectations.

HSR:
Do you have a central message or style? If the poems were all unnamed, how would someone identify your work?

Jade:
Oh Shawn.  I don’t know if I have a style yet and if I do it’s still forming itself, and forever will be.  If the poems were all unnamed they would be poems without titles.  What I write isn’t a brand to be identifiable.  There are consistent things because I’m a human being and selfish: they all revolve around me.

HSR:
Well, for the record, I think your style is paced, intricate, and intentional, raw, and completely unpredictable, but exacting in its expression

HSR:
Okay, last question.  Is there anything that you’d like to say to queer women of color on their path to turning 30?

Jade:
29 year old lesbians? Random! or is it?

HSR:
More like 27-29.  That’s when they’ll be experiencing their saturn.

Jade:
“Call me.”

HSR:
RIGHT! (laughs)
Thanks for interviewing.

Jade:
Thanks for including me in this project Shawn.  I’m grateful like you wouldn’t believe.  I’ve been desperate to share my work these days

HSR:
You are awesome and welcome!

Jade:
PEACE SHAWN!

HSR:
Peace!
